What is a cataract?
The eye contains a natural lens that focuses light onto the retina. Over time this lens can gradually become cloudy, causing blurred or dim vision, glare around lights, and difficulty reading or driving at night.
When should you consider surgery?
There is no need to rush. Surgery is usually recommended once the cataract begins to affect the things you enjoy or need to do day to day. Your consultant will talk through your options honestly.

What happens on the day
Cataract surgery is usually a day case under local anaesthetic. The clouded lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens chosen to suit your vision. Most people are home within a couple of hours.
