What is a cataract?

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which develops gradually and can cause blurred vision, glare and difficulty with everyday tasks. It is very common with age and is treated effectively with surgery.

What the treatment involves

Cataract surgery gently removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens tailored to your vision. It is usually a day case under local anaesthetic, taking around twenty minutes per eye.

Benefits and considerations

Most patients notice clearer, brighter vision within days. As with any procedure there are risks, which your consultant will discuss fully and honestly with you before you decide to proceed. We never guarantee outcomes.
